Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 1,578 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 9,77,268. The active caseload in the state now stands at 16,384. Out of the 1,578 new infections, 915 were reported from quarantine centres while 663 persons contracted the virus locally. The state had registered 1,558 cases of coronavirus infections Friday.
Odisha also reported 68 new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 5,902 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Saturday morning. The state had reported 66 Covid-19 fatalities Friday.
Angul reported highest eight deaths. It was followed by Ganjam and Khurda districts (seven each), Balasore and Puri districts (five each), Cuttack and Mayurbhanj districts (four each), Bargarh, Bolangir, Kendrapara, Keonjhar and Nayagarh districts (three each), Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Sambalpur districts (two each) and Boudh, Jajpur and Kandhamal districts (one each).
Incidentally, out of seven fresh fatalities reported from Khurda district, four are from the state capital.
Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 436 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 212 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Jagatsinghpur (113), Puri (109), Balasore (78), Jajpur (77), Nayagarh (53), Bhadrak (52), Kendrapara (51), Angul (47), Mayurbhanj (41), Sundargarh (29), Dhenkanal (19), Sambalpur (18), Kandhamal and Keonjhar (17 each), Nabarangpur (16), Gajapati, Koraput and Rayagada (14 each), Subarnapur (12), Malkangiri (11), Bargarh (nine), Bolangir and Deogarh (eight each), Boudh (four), Ganjam, Jharsuguda and Nuapada (two each) and Kalahandi (one).
The State Pool reported 92 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.
A total of 1,60,22,677 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 1,841.
