Odisha registers 1,615 new Covid-19 cases; 65 more fatalities

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 1,615 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 9,74,132. The active caseload in the state now stands at 17,262. Out of the 1,615 new infections, 937 were reported from quarantine centres while 678 persons contracted the virus locally. The state had registered 1,703 cases of coronavirus infections Wednesday.

Odisha also reported 65 new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 5,768 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Thursday morning. The state had reported 69 Covid-19 fatalities Wednesday.

Khurda reported highest nine deaths. It was followed by Bargarh (seven), Sundargarh (six), Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts (five each), Angul, Bolangir, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jajpur and Puri districts (three each), Bhadrak, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts (two each) and Balasore, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Nuapada districts (one each).

Incidentally, out of nine fresh fatalities reported from Khurda district, four are from the state capital.

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 442 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 229 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Puri (123), Balasore (98), Jagatsinghpur (96), Angul (72), Jajpur (70), Bhadrak (60), Mayurbhanj (48), Nayagarh (42), Kendrapara (40), Dhenkanal and Sundargarh (30 each), Sambalpur (16), Keonjhar (15), Kandhamal (14), Nabarangpur (12), Boudh (11), Jharsuguda (10), Deogarh, Rayagada and Subarnapur (nine each), Bolangir and Ganjam (seven each), Bargarh and Nuapada (five each), Koraput and Malkangiri (four each) and Kalahandi and Gajapati (two each).

The State Pool reported 94 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 1,58,74,576 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 1,699.
