Odisha registers 1,864 new Covid-19 cases; 68 more fatalities

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 1,864 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 9,65,715. The active caseload in the state now stands at 19,013. Out of the 1,864 new infections, 1,082 were reported from quarantine centres while 782 persons contracted the virus locally. The state had registered 1,917 cases of coronavirus infections Friday.

Odisha also reported 68 new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 5,445 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Saturday morning. The state had reported 69 Covid-19 fatalities Friday.

Khurda reported highest 30 deaths. It was followed by Puri (11), Angul (eight), Mayurbhanj (seven), Keonjhar (six) and Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Nuapada and Sundargarh districts (one each).

Incidentally, out of 30 fresh fatalities reported from Khurda district, 25 are from the state capital.

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 496 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 221 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Angul (69), Balasore (114), Bargarh (24), Bhadrak (65), Bolangir (5), Boudh (3), Deogarh (6), Dhenkanal (84), Gajapati (3), Ganjam (12), Jagatsinghpur (89), Jajpur (107), Jharsuguda (8), Kalahandi (7), Kandhamal (16), Kendrapara (59), Keonjhar (44), Koraput (7), Malkangiri (12), Mayurbhanj (57), Nabarangpur (2), Nayagarh (66), Nuapada (9), Puri (59), Rayagada (24), Sambalpur (34), Subarnapur (6) and Sundargarh (56).

The State Pool reported 100 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 1,55,10,612 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 2,044.
