Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 1,948 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 9,61,934. The active caseload in the state now stands at 19,623. Out of the 1,948 new infections, 1,120 were reported from quarantine centres while 828 persons contracted the virus locally. However, the state had registered 1,927 cases of coronavirus infections Wednesday.
Odisha also reported 67 new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 5,308 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Thursday morning. However, the state had reported 69 Covid-19 fatalities Wednesday.
Khurda reported highest 20 deaths. It was followed by Balasore (eight); Bargarh (seven); Nabarangpur (six); Angul, Puri and Rayagada districts (five each); Dhenkanal (four); Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj districts (two each); Kalahandi, Kendrapara and Nuapada districts (one each).
Incidentally, out of 20 fresh fatalities reported in Khurda district, 13 deaths are from Bhubaneswar alone.
Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 480 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 279 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Jajpur (115), Jagatsinghpur (113), Kendrapara (112), Balasore (98), Nayagarh (88), Angul (85), Puri (83), Mayurbhanj (66), Bhadrak (59), Sundargarh (47), Dhenkanal (34), Sambalpur (25), Malkangiri (24), Keonjhar (21), Kandhamal (19), Rayagada (18), Bargarh (17), Subarnapur (12), Nabarangpur (9), Bolangir and Koraput (7 each), Ganjam and Jharsuguda (6 each), Deogarh (5), Boudh, Gajapati and Kalahandi (4 each) and Nuapada (2).
The State Pool reported 99 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.
A total of 1,53,57,771 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 1,943.
