Odisha registers 8, 216 new COVID-19 cases; Khurda highest with 1,271

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 8,216 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 4,79,752. Active caseload in the state stands at 73,548. Out of the 8,216 new infections, 4,684 were reported from quarantine centres while 3,532 persons contracted the virus locally.

The death toll in Odisha surged to 2, 088 with 15 fresh fatalities reported Tuesday. The Health and Family Welfare department informed this. Khurda district reported maximum five fatalities. The other districts from where fatalities were reported are Rayagada (three) and Sundargarh and Kalahandi (two each) and Cuttack, Puri and Subarnapur (one each).

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 1,271 persons testing positive for the disease, followed by Sundargarh with 636 new infections.

A total of 1,02,71,003 swab samples have been cumulatively tested in the state so far. The number of new recoveries stands at 6,488.

Other districts that have reported new COVID-19 cases are: Cuttack (447), Puri (402), Angul (394), Sambalpur (385), Bargarh (375), Jajpur (347), Nabarangpur (319), Jharsuguda (316), Bolangir (305), Balasore (302), Nuapada (261), Nayagarh (250), Subarnapur (248), Kalahandi (238), Rayagada (232), Mayurbhanj (190), Koraput (133), Keonjhar (129), Gajapati (121), Jagatsinghpur (106), Boudh and Deogarh (98 each), Kendrapara (87), Kandhamal (77), Ganjam (69), Bhadrak (63), Dhenkanal (47) and Malkangiri (32).

The State Pool reported 238 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside the state and have tested positive.
