Odisha registers 886 new Covid-19 cases; 16 more fatalities

Bhubaneswar: In the last 24 hours, Odisha has recorded 886 new Covid-19 cases, of which 169 are in the age group of newborn to 18 years, taking tally in the state to 12,80,784. Active caseload in the state now stands at 8,664.

Odisha reported 16 new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking tally in the state to 8,961 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department posted Thursday morning. The state had reported 19 Covid-19 fatalities Wednesday.

Khurda reported highest deaths (seven). It was followed by Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar districts (two each) and Bolangir (one).

Out of total 886 new infections, 516 were reported from quarantine centres while 370 persons contracted the virus locally. The state had registered 852 cases of coronavirus infections Wednesday.

Sambalpur district registered the highest number of new cases with 179 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Sundargarh with 79 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Angul (14), Balasore (36), Bargarh (10), Bhadrak (11), Bolangir (13), Boudh (5), Cuttack (40), Deogarh (15), Dhenkanal (10), Gajapati (23), Ganjam (16), Jagatsinghpur (14), Jajpur (32), Jharsuguda (20), Kalahandi (12), Kandhamal (25), Kendrapara (18), Keonjhar (10), Khurda (86), Koraput (66), Malkangiri (3), Mayurbhanj (23), Nabarangpur (13), Nayagarh (20), Nuapada (19), Puri (8), Rayagada (22) and Subarnapur (25).

The State Pool reported 19 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 2,86,56,761 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 1,639.
