Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 993 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, of which 138 are in the age group of newborn to 18 years, taking the total tally in the state to 9,97,146. Active caseload in the state now stands at 9,536.
Odisha also reported 65 new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 7,086 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Wednesday morning. The state had reported 68 Covid-19 fatalities Tuesday.
Cuttack reported highest 15 deaths. It was followed by Jagatsinghpur (11), Kendrapara (nine), Dhenkanal (seven), Angul and Balasore districts (five each), Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj districts (three each), Puri (two) and Ganjam, Keonjhar, Khurda, Koraput and Nayagarh districts (one each).
Out of the 993 new infections, 578 were reported from quarantine centres while 415 persons contracted the virus locally. The state had registered 720 cases of coronavirus infections Tuesday.
Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 419 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 95 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Jajpur (60), Jagatsinghpur (51), Mayurbhanj (42), Dhenkanal (32), Balasore (30), Puri (25), Angul (18), Nayagarh (16), Kendrapara (15), Bolangir (13), Bhadrak (12), Sambalpur (11), Bargarh and Keonjhar (10 each), Sundargarh (eight), Kandhamal (seven), Ganjam and Subarnapur (five each), Deogarh (four), Rayagada (three), Jharsuguda (two) and Boudh, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Nuapada (one).
The State Pool reported 93 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.
A total of 1,72,08,248 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 1,064.
