Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported 2,673 new cases of coronavirus infections in the state in the last 24 hours. This information was given by the I&PR Department, Government of Odisha in a tweet Tuesday. Out of the new positive coronavirus cases, 1,554 persons were in quarantine while the remaining contracted the disease by coming in contact with infected persons. This is the second successive day when less than 3,000 infections have taken place in Odisha. It is a good trend in the state keeping in mind that Unlock 5.0 is currently on. Earlier Monday the state had reported 2,617 infections.
The death toll in Odisha rose to 940 with 16 new fatalities reported in the last 24 hours. Most of these COVID-19 patients were suffering from diabetes, hypertension and other complications.
Among the new cases reported Tuesday, Khurda district (448) had the maximum number of infections. It was followed by Cuttack district from where 214 persons tested positive for COVID-19.
Other districts from which cases of fresh infections were reported are: Nuapada (159), Kendrapara (151), Angul (126), Puri (124), Mayurbhanj (100), Bhadrak (97), Bolangir (93), Jajpur and Sundargarh (88 each), Kalahandi (77), Sambalpur (73), Nabarangpur (72), Balasore (70), Sonepur (69), Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh and Jharsuguda (68 each), Keonjhar (51), Ganjam and Kandhamal (44 each), Koraput (39), Dhenkanal (36), Nayagarh (35), Malkangiri (32), Deogarh (18), Boudh (13), Gajapati and Rayagada (11 each).
The current number of active cases in Odisha stands at 30,610. So far 2,38,000 persons have tested positive for the disease in the state.
Among those who fell victim to COVID-19, four persons were from Balasore. There were three persons who died due to COVID-19 in Khurda district including one from the state capital. Two persons with comorbidities died due to COVID-19. The districts of Angul, Boudh, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Puri and Subarnapur reported one death each.
