Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported its first death due to mucormycosis infection Friday morning. Along with the rising cases of Covid-19 cases in Odisha, mucormycosis or the black fungus disease is also spreading its tentacles. According to sources, 11 persons are currently undergoing treatment for mucormycosis. All these patients have also been infected by the Covid-19 virus and the condition of some of them is stated to be critical, a Health department source said Friday.

“Mucormycosis or black fungus has been included as a notifiable disease by exercising the power conferred by Section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 (3 of 1897) until further orders,” an official statement issued by the H&FW department said Thursday.
