Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has appointed Sanat Kumar Mohanty as the Chairman-in-charge of OPSC (Odisha Public Service Commission), a notification issued by General Administration and Public Grievance Department informed.
Sanat Kumar Mohanty, a member of the commission, was allowed to be Chairman-in-charge of the commission with effect from August 3, 2023.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1A) of the Article 316 of the Constitution of India, read with Regulation 3 of the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952, the Governor of Odisha has been pleased to allow Sri Sanat Kumar Mohanty, at present Member, Odisha Public Service Commission to remain in charge of the Chairman of the Commission with effect from 03.08.2023 until the appointment of Chairman, OPSC under the Clause (1) of Article 316 and enters office as such or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the notification read.
Notably, the tenure of the outgoing OPSC Chairman Satyajit Mohanty ended August 2, 2023. Mohanty was appointed as the OPSC Chairman in February 2021.
“On attaining the age of 62 years, Mohanty shall cease to hold office as Chairman of OPSC with effect from August 2,” an earlier notification of General Administration Department had read.
Following retirement, Satyajit Mohanty took to Twitter and wrote, “Today, retired from the position of Chairman, OPSC. Thus the 38 year long [SIC] journey in public service, starting with ONGC and being in IRTS & IPS, comes to an end- a humbling odyssey. God has been kind & merciful”.
