Odisha STF nabs doctorate degree holder for impersonating as vigilance sleuth

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Crime Branch Special Task Force (STF) Sunday arrested a person for cheating and extorting money from various government officials by impersonating himself as a senior Vigilance officer.

According to a press notification issued by STF, accused Manoj Kumar Majhi is a resident of Phulbari village under Krushna Prasad police limits in Puri district. He is expected to be produced before the SDJM court in Bhubaneswar Sunday.

Manoj was apprehended from his village May 6 based on an FIR lodged by an Additional Chief Engineer. The complainant alleged that Manoj demanded Rs 1 crore from him by posing as an SP in Odisha Vigilance.

STF informed that the accused had cheated some other persons by promising them government jobs.

The investigation, so far, has revealed that the accused is a highly educated person with having qualification of MSc in Chemistry and a PhD degree from Sambalpur University, an STF official informed.

A detailed probe into his modus operandi is underway.
