Bhubaneswar: Odisha players performed splendidly as both their boys’ and the girls’ teams entered the finals of the 21st Sub-Junior National Sepak Takraw Championships at the KIIT premises here Thursday.
In the first semifinal of the boys’ segment Odisha blanked Kerala 2-0. The hosts will meet Tamil Nadu in the summit clash, who scraped past Nagaland 2-1 in the second semifinal. In the girls’ category first semifinal Odisha edged out Bihar 2-1. The hosts will face Manipur in the final. Manipur mauled Goa 2-0 in the second semifinal.
Splendid show
Odisha players had a good day in office as many of them entered the final of the TBA-AITA OTA CS7 tennis tournament at the Kalinga Stadium here Thursday.
In the boys’ U-16 singles second seed Pratyush Mohanty of Odisha entered the final after registering an easy 6-3, 6-3 victory over Rounak Ghosh of West Bengal.
In the boys’ U-14 doubles fourth seed Odisha duo of Sambit S Pradhan and Swastik S Pradhan stunned second seed West Bengal duo of Shagnik Bose and Ankush Sengupta 6-2, 6-4 to make it to the final.
Odisha pair of Abhishek Mohapatra and Ashis Parida also made it to the summit clash round after easing past West Bengal duo of Tamoghan Das and Rounak Ghosh 6-3, 6-2.
Sasmita selected
Sasmita Das of Odisha has been selected Wednesday by Kabaddi Federation of India as a referee of the Kabaddi Masters Tournament in Dubai, June 22-30. Sasmia will depart from the city June 20. Odisha Kabaddi Association (OKA) members congratulated Sasmita for her achievement.
