Odisha tennis players rule the roost

Winners and runners-up in various categories of AITA OTA TS7 tennis tournament pose with their trophies and certificates along with guests in Bhubaneswar, Friday

Bhubaneswar: Odisha players performed splendidly to emerge champions in six categories of AITA OTA TS7 tennis tournament, which concluded here Friday.

D Aryan Swamy, Lalit Tudu and Sohini Mohanty won double crowns in their respective age groups. Aryan won both the singles and doubles titles in boys’ U-16 category. Lalit won both the singles and doubles titles in boys’ U-12 category. Sohini won both the girls’ U-12 and U-16 titles respectively.

Sixth seed Lalit clinched the boys’ U-12 singles title after beating statemate Arush Sarma 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 in the final. In the girls’ U-12 singles category top seed Sohini justified her billing to clinch the title after beating second seed Sohini Chatterjee of West Bengal 6-0, 6-3.

In the boys’ U-16 singles category second seed Aryan emerged champion after thrashing sixth seed Bighnesh Nanda 6-1, 6-3. In the girls’ U-16 singles category Sohini registered a thumping win over Tamana Saha of West Bengal 6-1, 6-0.

In the U-12 boys’ doubles category the duo of Lalit Tudu and Dishanta Mohanty stunned second seed pair of Kaamlesh Rath and Aniket Sahoo 6-2, 6-7(3), 10-6 to emerge champions. Second seed duo of Aryan and Bighnesh triumphed in the U-16 boys’ doubles category after beating third seed pair of Biehesh Sahoo and Pranesh Sahoo 6-2, 6-3.

Chatikona, Rengopali win

Cahatikona and Rengopali registered convincing victories over their respective opponents in different matches of the Vedanta Limited’s knock-out cricket tournament at Vedanta Nagar ground in Lanjigarh, Thursday.

In the first match Chatikona defeated Ambadola by 44 runs. In the second match Rengopali beat Mering by 21 runs.
