Odisha: Tension erupts as two die in road accident

Rayagada: Two persons died and another was critically injured in a road accident near Shankarada village of Kashipur block under Tikiri police limits in Rayagada district, late Friday night.

The two deceased were identified as Maheswar Majhi of Denkaguda and Odia Majhi of Kupakhal, and the injured as Suresh Majhi of Dengaguda village under Tikiri police limits.

According to the police, the trio was returning on a bike from Raphkana to Tikiri when an alumina-laden tanker hit them at 1am Friday. After the accident, both the two-wheeler and the tanker burnt to ashes as the bike was stuck and dragged 200 metres on the road.

Maheswsar and Odia died on the spot while the injured Suresh was admitted to Utkal Hospital at Ushapada. His condition was stated to be stable. After being informed fire brigade personnel from Tikiri reached the spot and doused the fire.

Rayagada SDPO Debajyoti Das along with Tikiri police reached the spot and kicked off an investigation. Locals blocked the road demanding compensation for the deceased and the injured. Traffic movement from Rayagada to Tikiri and Kashipur was hampered due to the blockade. After assurance from Tikiri police, the blockade was removed.
