Bhubaneswar: As many as 1,000 cold storage facilities will be set up in Odisha to strengthen agricultural infrastructure, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Department Secretary Arabinda Padhee said Thursday while speaking at Krushi Odisha 2023 event in Bhubaneswar.
The storage capacity of each unit will be 10-15 metric tonnes, informed Padhee.
These cold storage facilities will be fuelled by solar energy, the Secretary said.
Notably, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday inaugurated ‘Krushi Odisha 2023’ which is a two-day state-level annual agricultural festival event that is being held at Baramunda Ground here.
Naveen emphasized the use of technology in the field of agriculture for better output.
“The KALIA scheme has provided income security to the farmers. Efforts are on to improve output with farm mechanization. Special programmes like Jackfruit Mission and Mushroom Mission are being undertaken to enhance the income of farmers. Our Millet Mission has drawn the attention of the country as well as the world,” the Chief Minister said.
“The Chief Minister has been emphasizing four aspects for development of agriculture sector in the state. First one is crop diversification which is cultivation of crops other than paddy. Second one is agriculture mechanization– use of farming machinery. Thirdly, importance is being given to allied sectors like horticulture, animal resources and fishery. Lastly, creation of agriculture entrepreneurship,” Padhee added.
It can be mentioned here that ‘Krushi Odisha 2023” festival is being organised by Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment.
