Odisha: Two die as dumper collides with car in Garjanbahal mine

Sundargarh: In a tragic incident an executive officer and an operator died when a car carrying two executives and four operators met with an accident Tuesday at Garjanbahal open cast mine in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

A source in Mahanadi Coalfield Limited(MCL) said that a dumper operating in the mine collided with the car at around 8 AM Tuesday.

The company officials immediately swung into action for rescue and shifted all injured officials and the driver of car to the hospital for treatment, where two of them were declared brought dead.

The injured were shifted to nearby Fortis Hospital in Raigarh for treatment. The deceased have been identified as Deputy Manager (Mining) Jagdish Oram, a resident of Adhapara, Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district and Operator Umakant Patel, a resident of Balinga, Himgir in Sundargarh district.

The MCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director has expressed profound grief over the loss of lives in the accident. The company, he said, has initiated an internal inquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident and assured the best of medical facilities to the injured.
