Odisha: Two die from snakebites

Polasara/Tihidi: A snake catcher died Friday after he was bitten by a snake while trying to catch the reptile. The tragedy took place at Patana Sahi locality of Ranipada village under Polasara NAC area in Ganjam district.

The deceased was identified as Sanjaya Barada alias Dugulu, 38 of the same village.

He had gone to the backyard of his house for some work when he spotted the snake. As he tried to catch it, the venomous snake bit him.

Sanjaya’s family members immediately took him to a local hospital here. As his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to a hospital in Berhampur. However, he did not respond to treatment and breathed his last.

A pall of gloom descended on Sanjaya’s village as news of his death spread. Local political leaders also visited his house and offered their condolences.

In a separate incident, a woman died from a snakebite at Nuasahi village under Jamajodi panchayat and Tihidi block in Bhadrak district, Friday. The deceased was identified as Gouri Parida (43) of the village.

As per information received, the woman was sleeping at her house when a poisonous snake bit her. As her condition turned critical she was immediately rushed to Tihidi Hospital. As her condition deteriorated further, she was being taken to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH), but she died on the way.

Pirhat police registered an unnatural death case and sent the body for post-mortem.
