Patna: Two Class-V students were injured Monday as the roof of an abandoned toilet fell on them at a school premises in Patna area of Keonjhar district, a source said.
The incident took place at Government Urdu Muktab Primary School. The students have been identified as Santosh Karua and Raja Naik from Tainshira village. The duo sustained severe injuries on their waist and head.
Their condition is stated to be critical at the time of filing this report.
Following the mishap, both students were first shifted to a local hospital and later admitted to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital.
Meanwhile, some students blamed the headmistress of the school Naliniprabha Mahanta for the mishap as she allegedly instructed the two students to demolish the roof of the abandoned toilet.
Mahanta, however, refuted the allegations.
“The students got injured as they went inside the abandoned toilet on their own,” she clarified.
Tension prevailed in the area over the incident with parents staging a road blockade near the school.
Later, BEO Purna Chandra Mant reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
