Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed in Pateli village under Angul Forest Division in Odisha after two people were killed in a wild elephant attack in the wee hours of Thursday.

The police identified the deceased as Shankar Biswal and Jhilli Majhi. Both died on the spot.

Sources said both Biswal and Majhi were trampled to death while going to answer the call of nature.

Soon after the incident, irate villagers blocked the road close to the village after informing the forest officials. The protestors burnt tyres and demanded adequate compensation for the incident.

Vehicular movement came to a standstill and several vehicles remained stranded following the protest.

The police reached the spot and were trying to bring the situation under control at the time of filing this report.
