New Delhi: Odisha finally opened their account after their third Group B encounter against Uttar Pradesh was abandoned due to rain in the Vijay Hazare trophy here at Airforce Complex ground, Sunday. UP were 95/2 in 15 overs when rain gods came in. Both the teams got two points each.
Sent into bat first, UP started on a punishing mode as their openers Shivam Chaudhary (30, 41b, 1×4) and Upendra Yadav (42, 21b, 4×4, 3×6) hit the Odisha bowlers at will racing to 50 runs in the seventh over.
However, the onslaught came to a halt soon, after Chaudhary was run out by rival skipper Govind Poddar. Yadav was next to follow as he holed out to Suryakant Pradhan off the bowling of Papu Roy (1/21).
UP captain Suresh Raina (14 n o) and Priyam Garg (8 n o) were at the crease when the rain stopped play. Odisha play their next game against Delhi, Wednesday.
