Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has requested the Centre to provide 50,000 doses of precaution vaccines to the state in view of the rising number of daily covid-19 positive cases in the state.
Director of Family Welfare Bijay Panigrahi in a letter to the Union government said there is a demand for precaution dose vaccination after the rise in covid cases.
Panigrahi requested the central government to provide at least 50,000 doses of precaution vaccines with long expiry dates to the state at the earliest.
He said in Odisha 41 per cent of the people have taken the precaution doses. The vaccination has been stopped since February 10 last after the stock of vaccines was exhausted. Panigrahi said the state has the infrastructure and the vaccination will start again after the vaccines reach the state.
Odisha Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra said 141 new covid positive cases were reported from 16 districts during the last 24 hours. The total active case load in the state now stands at 731.
