Bhubaneswar: Nabarangpur Additional Sub-Collector Prasanta Kumar Rout (OAS officer) was arrested by Odisha Vigilance for possession of disproportionate assets worth over Rs five crore.
Vigilance sources said Rout is being forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh.
A case has been registered against Rout and his spouse in this connection.
During house searches, movable and immovable assets worth Rs 5.21 crore were unearthed in the name of Rout and his family members.
The assets included one double-storied building at Kanan Vihar in Bhubaneswar, five plots including four in prime areas of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and one benami plot at Umerkote in Nabarangpur district.
The Vigilance sleuths Friday had recovered Rs 3.02 crore in cash from Bhubaneswar and Nabarangpur residences of Rout.
Bank and insurance deposits of over Rs 92.34 lakh, including Rs 38.64 lakh deposits in two benami accounts, gold and silver jewellery and household articles worth over Rs 27.27 lakh were also recovered.
In addition to it, Rs 87 lakh was spent on the education of Rout’s daughter and son, the Vigilance sources informed.
Following a thorough search, inventory and further inquiry, Rout’s income, expenditure and assets were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 5,21,09,659 which constituted 506 percent of his known sources of income.
Investigation in this case is underway.
