Odisha Vigilance raids suspended Civil Supplies Officer’s properties over DA charge

Bhubaneswar: A team of Odisha Vigilance Friday raided properties linked to a suspended Civil Supplies Officer from Nayagarh Brajendra Kumar Nayak who is facing charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known source of income.

A source said that simultaneous raids are being conducted at as many as five properties that are linked to Nayak. Out of the five properties, three are located in Bhubaneswar and two are in Puri.

The Vigilance team comprising of two Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSPs), six Inspectors, and other staff are raiding the properties, the source added. The teams are carrying out these raids after obtaining search warrants issued by a court. The team unearthed assets worth crores, including five multi-storeyed buildings, a farmhouse, one market complex and bank deposits of Rs 60 lakh in possession.

Overall valuation of his movable and immovable properties is yet to be ascertained as searches are still underway, the source added.

In another raid this Monday, Odisha Vigilance officials unearthed property worth crores of rupees from the possession of an Assistant Engineer of Sadar block, Cuttack, Bikash Chandra Bhuyan.

The Vigilance team raided one multi-storied building, seven plots in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack named after Bhuyan and his family members. During the search, the team attached gold and silver jewellery worth Rs38 lakhs, along with other undeclared assets and investments. A source suggested that he had invested in cryptocurrencies and a part of his money was allegedly spent on the education of his child.
