Odisha Vigilance sleuths catch lady IIC while accepting bribe of Rs 1 lakh

Phulbani: Odisha Vigilance officials Friday caught a lady IIC (Inspector-In-Charge) of Harbhanga Police Station in Boudh district while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh, a source said.

The lady IIC, Puspalata Routray, was caught while accepting the bribe from a quarry lease holder to release his vehicles which were detained at the police station, added the source.

A Vigilance source said the entire bribe amount has been seized from the accused IIC.

In this connection, Berhampur Vigilance has registered a case and an investigation is in progress.

Routray is now being taken to Phulbani for further investigation, added the source.

In another similar yet unrelated incident, Vigilance officials July 14 arrested a woman cop deployed at Saheed Nagar police station while taking a bribe from a lady.

The woman was allegedly paying a bribe of `15,000 to clear her name as an accused in a harassment case.

The arrested cop was identified as Mamata Bastia who works as an ASI in Commissionerate Police.
