Odisha: Villagers protest over corruption in 5T School in Nabarangpur district

Nabarangpur: A group of villagers along with some members of the school managing committee locked the main gate of a 5T School in Dumurimunda village under Raighar block in Nabarangpur district alleging irregularities in equipment procurement.

A source said that Indira Gandhi High School was shortlisted to be transformed under the 5T initiative. It was to be inaugurated Saturday. However, the villagers locked the school gate and protested over alleged corruption in procurement of equipment.

One of the protestors alleged that substandard equipment were procured for the school.

Another protestor said that they had informed the BDO about the issue and the officer said that nothing can be done now. The protestor informed that they also conveyed the matter to the district Collector in writing. However, they did not get any response back. Protest was the only option left for them to bring the matter to the fore, the protestor added.

Meanwhile, the headmaster of the school Ghanashyam Mohanty refuted the allegations made by the villagers.  The same kind of equipment have been purchased in all 15 schools of the block as per instructions of Raighar BDO, Mohanty informed.
