Odisha weather alert: IMD forecast heavy rainfall in 19 districts

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar in its weather bulletin issued both Orange and Yellow warnings for heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of August 18: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.

The weather agency further predicted extremely heavy rainfall (> 20 cm) at one or two places over Boudh, Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts.

The IMD also flagged a Yellow Warning (be updated) that forecast heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nuapada, Kendrapada, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts.

Besides, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Angul, Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, and Boudh districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the remaining districts of Odisha.

From 8.30 AM of August 18 to 8.30 AM of August 19: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir and Nuapada districts.

The IMD also flagged a Yellow Warning (be updated) that forecast heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Boudh, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the remaining districts of Odisha.

Impact and action suggested for Orange Warning:

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a cloudy sky with heavy rain is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 30 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 35.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Chandbali and Bhadrak while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Nabarangpur, the bulletin informed.
