Odisha Weather alert June 20, 2023: Heat menace likely to decrease, says IMD

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD Bhubaneswar in its weather alert of June 20, 2023 informed that the maximum temperature (day) is very likely to fall further by 3 to 5 degree Celsius in Odisha over the next three days and no large change thereafter.

IMD also issued Yellow Warnings for heatwave and thunderstorm conditions over several Odisha districts.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 21: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Bolangir districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface windspeed reaching upto 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and at a few places over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of June 21 to 8.30 AM of June 22: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface windspeed reaching 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamal.

Besides, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heavy Rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam and Mayurbhanj districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of south Odisha, north coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of north interior Odisha.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 38 degree Celsius and 28 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 44.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Sundargarh while the lowest minimum temperature of 23.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Nabarangpur, the Weather alert of June 20, 2023, informed.
