Odisha weather alert June 24: Heavy rainfall likely as monsoon covers entire state

Bhubaneswar: With the southwest monsoon covering the whole of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department Saturday issued a heavy-rainfall warning for several districts of the state till June 27.

“The southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Odisha and thus covered the entire Odisha today,” IMD said in a bulletin.

Odisha recorded an average of 21.3-mm rainfall in the past 24 hours, the Met office said.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 25: IMD forecasted heavy rainfall (7-20cm) at one or two places in Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj Saturday.

Heavy rain (7-11 cm) is also very likely to occur at one or two places over Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Angul, Kandhamal, Boudh, Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Sundargarh districts, as per a Yellow Warning issued by the weather agency.

From 8.30 AM of June 25 to 8.30 AM of June 26: As per an Orange Warning, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda.

The weather agency also issued a Yellow Warning which predicted that heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershower is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 31 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 37.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Kendrapara while the lowest minimum temperature of 21 degree Celsius was recorded at Nabarangpur, the weather alert of June 24 informed.
