Bhubaneswar: Temperature is likely to shoot past 42 degree Celsius at a few places over some districts of interior Odisha such as Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir and Kalahandi, the regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar said Tuesday.
Hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm, the weather agency said. It further forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places over the districts of Odisha over the next five days.
A Yellow Warning for several districts of the state was issued by IMD.
Upto 8.30 AM of May 17: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack and Khurda districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal districts.
In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of north coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and at one or two places over the districts of south coastal Odisha, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.
From 8.30 AM of May 17 to 8.30 AM of May 18: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal and Angul districts.
In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur & at one or two places over the remaining districts of coastal Odisha, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Boudh, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.
In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 38 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.
In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 44.4 degree Celsius was recorded at Bolangir while the lowest minimum temperature of 20.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Balasore, the bulletin informed.
