Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Wednesday issued an Orange Warning for several districts of Odisha.
Upto 8.30 AM of May 18: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), thunderstorm, squally winds with speeds reaching up to 50-60 kmph and lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak districts.
As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh and Dhenkanal districts.
In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and at one or two places over Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Boudh districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.
From 8.30 AM of May 18 to 8.30 AM of May 19: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Nayagarh districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Kandhamal, Malkangiri and Dhenkanal districts.
In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Rayagada, Keonjhar and at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.
The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) in the state over the next five days. It is likely to be 42 degree Celcius or more at a few places over some districts of interior Odisha such as Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda and Nuapada. Hence, hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm.
In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of rain or thundershower is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 38 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.
In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 44.3 degree Celsius was recorded at Sambalpur while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Bhubaneswar, the bulletin informed.
