Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Friday issued an Orange Warning for several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of May 20: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), thunderstorm with lightning, squally and gusty surface wind speeds reaching 50-60 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts.

Impact and action suggested:

Under influence of the thunderstorm, some damage to loose/ unsecured structures and breaking of branches of trees may occur. People are advised to keep watch on the weather & take safe shelter during thunderstorm events.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Puri, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Boudh districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nuapada. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of May 20 to 8.30 AM of May 21: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangapur. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of the state.

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next five days. It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at one or two places during the next two days and at a few places during the subsequent three days over some districts of interior Odisha such as Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda and Nuapada.

Consequently hot and discomfort weather are very likely to prevail. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am to 3 pm.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershower with strong gusty wind is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 38 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 44.2 degree Celsius was recorded at Subarnapur while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Angul, the bulletin informed.
