Odisha weather May 20: Orange Warning likely to bring thunderstorm with lightning in these districts

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Saturday issued an Orange Warning for several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of May 21: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), thunderstorm with lightning, hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts.

Impact and action suggested: Under the influence of the thunderstorm, some damage to unsecured structures and breaking of branches of trees may occur. People are advised to keep watch on the weather & take safe shelter during thunderstorm events.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Nuapada, Kalahandi and at one or two places over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of May 21 to 8.30 AM of May 22: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput. Dry weather very is likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) in Odisha over the next five days. It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at one or two places during the next 24 hours and at a few places over the subsequent four days in some districts of interior Odisha such as Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Subarnapur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Jharsuguda.

Consequently, hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am to 3 pm.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershower towards evening or night is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 39 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 43.7 degree Celsius was recorded at Bolangir while the lowest minimum temperature of 20.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Cuttack, the bulletin informed.
