Odisha weather May 21: Mercury likely to cross 42 degree-mark in these districts

Bhubaneswar: Temperature is likely to shoot past 42 degrees Celsius-mark over the next five days in several districts of Odisha, the regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar said Sunday.

Districts including Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Jharsuguda and Bargarh are likely to experience high temperatures, the weather agency said.

No large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) over the next five days is predicted.

Consequently, hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11am to 3pm.

Yellow Warning has also been issued by the weather agency for several districts.

Upto 8.30 AM of May 22: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Kendrapada districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of north coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Puri, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, Boudh, Angul. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of May 22 to 8.30 AM of May 23: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershower with strong gusty wind is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 40 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 42.9 degree Celsius was recorded at Boudh while the lowest minimum temperature of 21.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Deogarh, the bulletin informed.
