Odisha weather May 8: Mercury likely to rise; IMD flags Yellow Warning

Bhubaneswar: The maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to rise further by 2 to 3 degree Celsius over the next two days at many places over the districts of Odisha, the regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Monday said.

The mercury during the daytime may breach the 40-degree Celsius mark at a few places in the state over the next four to five days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside, IMD informed.

The weather agency also issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of the state.

Upto 8.30 AM of May 9: As per the Yellow Warning (be prepared), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

From 8.30 AM of May 9 to 8.30 AM of May 10: The weather agency forecasted that light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of thunder or lightning is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 34 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 41.7 degree Celsius was recorded at Angul while the lowest minimum temperature of 23.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani, the bulletin informed.
