Bhubaneswar: The mercury, during daytime, may breach the 40-degree Celsius mark at a few places in Odisha over the next three to four days, the regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar said Tuesday.
People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside.
On the other hand, the low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea now lies as a well-marked low-pressure area over the same region. It is likely to intensify into a depression by Tuesday evening over the same region into a cyclonic storm over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea May 10. It is likely to move initially north-westwards till May 11 and recurve gradually thereafter and move north-northeastwards towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coast.
Fishermen, small ships, boats and trawlers are advised not to venture into southeast and central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from May 9 onwards.
The weather agency also flagged a Yellow Warning for several districts of the state.
Upto 8.30 AM of May 10: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, the IMD bulletin stated.
In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Khurda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts. Dry weather IS very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.
From 8.30 AM of May 10 to 8.30 AM of May 11: Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati and Mayurbhanj districts. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.
In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky with possibility of thunder or lightning is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 39 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.
In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 42.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Boudh and the lowest minimum temperature of 21.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Nayagarh, the bulletin informed.
