Odisha weather: Thunderstorms likely to give brief relief from blistering heat

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Thursday issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 2: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Puri, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada and at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha.

From 8.30 AM of June 2 to 8.30 AM of June 3: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

The weather agency forecasted no change in maximum temperature (day temperature) in the state. It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at one or two places in districts of interior Odisha over the next five days.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky with possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 39 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 42.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Sambalpur and the lowest minimum temperature of 23.7 degree Celsius was recorded at Balasore, the bulletin informed.
