Bhubaneswar: A woman from Khurda district died by suicide within 24-hours after her husband got killed in a road accident, a source said Tuesday.

The deceased woman was identified as Anindita Subudhi (37) who was a resident of Benagadia village under Bolgarh tehsil under Bankoi police outpost in Khurda district.

According to the source, Anindita’s husband Gokul Chandra Sahu succumbed to his injuries Sunday evening after meeting with an accident on National Highway-57.

Anindita’s brother-in-law Santosh Kumar Behera alleged that Gokul died due to the unavailability of an ambulance on NH-57 and medical negligence at Bankoi Community Health Centre.

The villagers blamed the NHAI authorities as the injured had to wait nearly two hours for an ambulance. They further alleged that the ambulance that reached the accident spot did not have the oxygen supply.

Behera said that Gokul’s wife ended her life as she could not bear the trauma of her husband’s death. Following Gokul’s cremation, Anindita took the extreme step Monday night, Behera added.

The deceased couple is survived by two minor daughters.

Behera further appealed the state government to bear the educational expenses of the two girls.
