Bhubaneswar: A woman Homeguard has brought serious allegations against the wife of North Central Range DIG Brijesh Kumar Rai and claimed that she lost both her legs in a suicide attempt after failing to bear the torture.
The victim is being treated at a hospital in Cuttack.
The female Homeguard informed that she narrated her ordeal to Homeguard DG Sudhanshu Sarangi in written August 13. The woman has taken the matter up with the Chief Minister, the Governor, and the 5T Secretary. However, she claimed that no action has so far been taken in this regard.
In her complaint to the Homeguard DG, she alleged that the wife of DIG Rai was asking her to do tiring physical work, torturing her, beating her up and even threatening her to take her job away. DIG’s wife didn’t allow her to take leave.
She further stated in her complaint that on a particular day, the DIG’s wife pushed her and asked her to go and end her life somewhere when she refused to wash clothes.
“Hearing these words I was under severe mental stress. I decided to end my life and went straight to nearby railway tracks. While I was standing on the tracks, I fell down due to the vibration caused by an approaching train and fell outside the tracks. However, my legs got crushed under the wheel of the train. When I regained my sense I found myself in a hospital bed,” she said in her letter to the DG.
However, the victim has not filed any FIR in this regard.
Meanwhile, North Central Range DIG, Brijesh Kumar Rai termed the allegations brought against his wife as baseless.
When contacted, the IPS officer said, “The lady Homeguard had been upset due to family issues. We have never mistreated her. Someone might have instigated her to go against us.”
Notably, the victim’s daughter Suchismita dismissed Rai’s claims of family issues being the reason for her mother’s discontent and said they were living happily. She also said that her mother had been upset due to the torture being inflicted upon her by Rai’s wife.
The Homeguard, in her letter, demanded action against Rai and his wife, compensation of Rs 5 lakh along with a Homeguard job for her elder daughter.
