Odisha: Woman trampled to death by wild elephant

Bhubaneswar: A woman died and another was injured in an attack by a wild elephant in Panabaraj village under town Police station limit of Khurda district Monday.

The elephant crushed the woman to death near a playground while she was out for a morning walk. Another woman injured in the attack was admitted to Khurda District Headquarters Hospital.

Police identified the deceased woman as Kiranbala Mangaraj.

In another incident, a mother elephant is seen guarding the carcass of her baby in Kusumandi forest near Koida in Sundargarh district.

The baby elephant aged about three to four years old was recently released into the forest by the forest department after treatment about a fortnight ago.

The cause of the death of the baby elephant is not yet known.
