Odisha’s Debashis Dash hopes to make it big in Kannada movie industry

Daringbadi: Debashis Dash — a small town lad from Odisha’s Daringbadi — surely believes in the adage ‘if there is a will, there is a way’. In a mega leap, he has gone from an office cabin in Odisha to leading roles in Kannada movie industry. And along the way, he has proven that it is possible to dream big even when one is challenged at every step.

The young lad, who is making his debut in Kannada movie titled ‘Kaliyuga Ravana’, feels excited and takes pride in the fact that he is now representing Odisha in the southern film industry.

His achievements don’t end here. He has also signed another five films contract for the production house that has given him the big break.

Born in Badagada village of Ganjam district December 31, 1990, Debashis aka Gudlu was brought up in Daringbadi of Kandhamal district. His family comprises of his father Kishore Chandra Dash, a retired government teacher, mother Sabitarani Dash and elder sister Archana Dash.

While his sister is now married, his parents stay in Daringbadi. He started his schooling in his father’s school Daringbadi Government High School after which he went to study his intermediate and graduation from Bhanjanagar KSUB College.

After his graduation, he pursued his MBA degree and was engaged in a company in Angul. However, his instincts always pulled him towards glitterati.

He left Angul and went to Bhubaneswar where he worked for a company and tried his luck in the Odisha movie industry during his free time. After getting rejected a dozen times, he managed to bag a side role in ‘Aashiq’.

Dissatisfied with the scope of work, he left for Bangalore where he approached producers during his free times. He worked a day job in a company and visited production houses in the evening. He also learnt Kannada and dance at night.

After struggling for two years, he finally bagged his first role as ‘Kaliyuga Ravana’. Almost 80 per cent of the shooting of the movie has been completed. He also has bagged another movie ‘Cross’ apart from the five movie contract in his kitty.

Gudlu attributes his success to his parents who are his inspiration. He vows to make Odisha and his hometown proud with his achievement and aspires to become a megastar like Kannada stars Yash and Rajinikanth.
