Odisha’s image as investor friendly state gets a boost

Bhubaneswar: Odisha seems to be emerging as a focus area for South Asian countries like China and Korea who are exploring new avenues for the business expansion. Chinese public listed paper manufacturing company Nine Dragons Paper Ltd is among the early birds that has shown interest in setting up a unit near Paradip. Recently, a S Korean business delegation visited the state and met high ranking government officials for discussions and opportunities.

Managing director of the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (IPICOL) Nitin Jawale told Orissa POST, “During a promotion, this Chinese company expressed interest to set up paper manufacturing unit in Paradip. At present, they are studying details like investment, location and other aspects. We have proposed them land in Paradip as it will be convenient for their operations. The delegation is likely to visit the state for inspection of the suggested land next month.”

Jawale said replies to the Chinese company’s querries pertaining to the project’s infrastructural requirements like cost of land, utility of nearby, accessibility to port and among other details have been sent. “We can’t disclose the questions and answers but we expect their response soon”.

State government has suggested multiple lands to the prospective investors and Paradip location is one among them. A Chinese delegation is expected to visit Paradip next month after they prepare the initial proposal.

Nine Dragons Paper Ltd is based in Guangdong (China) and it is largest manufacturer of recycled paper in the world. Jawale said that around 200 acres of land has been asked by the company for its India project.

The state government is on an overdrive to create conducive platform for the domestic and foreign industries. Recently, The Invest Odisha delegation led by State MSME and Industries Dibya Sankar Mishra visited Guangzhou and visited Nine Dragon Paper (Holdings) Limited at Donguang near Gaungzhou, which had shown interest in investing in Odisha.
