Talcher: Demanding compensation towards displacement and employment, an old man Saturday staged a sit-in protest at traffic number-3 of Bhubaneswari coal mines here, disrupting coal transportation.
In 1987 Phauj Pradhan had to part with more than one acre of land for coal mines. It was then promised that his son would get employment and a suitable amount for his land as compensation. However Pradhan, who did not get anything as compensation, lost his son Girishankar April 17 2014.
The mines authority had then promised Pradhan that he would be compensated with Rs 10 lakh towards employment and Rs 6.78 lakh towards his house within 60 days. Despite repeated visits and requests, he is yet to get the compensation.
His sit-in was continued till the intervention of project officer of mines. Pradhan called off his strike after getting a written assurance that his matter would be discussed Monday as the IGM was not present Saturday.
