Bhubaneswar: With the increase in milk prices by private companies, the state government is also thinking to hike the rate of milk sold by Odisha State Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (Omfed).
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a workshop on dairy farmers here Tuesday, Agriculture Minister Arun Sahoo said in view of the demand from the dairy farmers, the government is mulling to increase in the rate of Omfed milk. The revised price will be fixed so that the interests of the consumers and dairy farmers are best served, the minister said.
While the Omfed has not modified the rate of milk since 2014, other milk producers have already increased the price to Rs 44 per litre. The Omfed is selling the milk at a rate of Rs 40 per litre now.
