Cuttack, Dec 17: Residents of Cuttack have expressed concern over the rise in price of Orissa Milk Federation (Omfed) milk by `2.
Orissa POST spoke to some residents of the city and took their views on the rise in the price of milk and its impact on their monthly budget. According to Sandhyarani Pushkar, a resident of Badambadi, hike in price of Omfed milk has become a routine affair now.
“The state government always takes the excuse that any hike in milk price will directly benefit the milk producers. The government can give some subsidy to Omfed and prevent the hike for the common man,’’ she said.
Shambhunath Mohanty, a resident of Link Road said, “The excuse that the hike in price of Omfed milk will benefit milk producers is not justified as milk is not a luxury commodity. It is essential for children, elderly people and the sick. Fleecing the common man to benefit the milk producers does not make sense”. He added that the state government can come up with effective ways to ensure that the milk producers are benefitted.
“The common man and the milk producers are suffering due to the faulty policies of Omfed,” Mohanty said.
On the other hand, Omfed booth owner Debnath Rout said dealers like him would not benefit from the hike in Omfed milk and milk products. “Packaged milk business has never been profitable,” he said, adding the state government should come up with ways to benefit Omfed dealers like us.
