Rourkela: One person has been arrested for shooting at his friend, police said Monday. The accused identified as Zunaid Alam, shot and gravely injured Md Irfan Raza during an altercation that took place on the morning of November 4 at Bisra in Sundargarh district, DSP Zone III Anil Pradhan informed. Irfan is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital here. “We filed a case as per the complaint filed by the brother of the victim, Manzoor Raza. He said in the complaint that his brother was shot by two unidentified youths who had covered their faces with masks.

However, initial investigation revealed that Manzoor was lying and even the place where the shooting took place was mentioned wrongly,” informed Pradhan. He added that police had filed a case under 307 of IPC and 25/27 of Arms Act.

Police said Irfan and Zunaid were well known to each other and drivers by profession. They were both driving vehicles belonging to one person. On the fateful day, the two had an argument and in the heat of the moment, Zunaid brought out a gun he was carrying and shot Irfan from close range. Pradhan also stated that after the shooting, Zunaid understood the gravity of the situation and tried to suppress the entire incident. Along with two of his friends he tried to pressurise Manzoor not to file a police complaint.

However, Manzoor did not bow to the pressure and went ahead and filed a complaint, Pradhan added. Police have recovered a country-made pistol, a magazine and the blood-stained clothes of Irfan from Zunaid. He was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody Monday
