Saranda: A passenger mini-bus (OD-17 D 5729) hit a bike, which did not have a number plate on, near Damdama bridge on Bargarh-Sambalpur NH-53 under Attabira police station in Bargarh district.
It was learnt that the bike rider died and the pillion rider was admitted at the Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital (VSSMCH), Burla in a very critical condition. The deceased was identified as, Mohan Jaal (44) of Bhanpur village under Khaprakhol police station limits in Bolangir district, while the identity of the pillion rider had not been ascertained.
According to sources when the passenger mini-bus was going from Bargarh towards Sambalpur, it hit the bike so hard that its front glass broke into pieces. The nearby villagers and local police rescued the injured and rushed them to the nearest Attabira hospital, where the doctor declared Mohan dead. The pillion rider was then shifted to Burla hospital.
Moreover, the deceased had been to a nearby farm to attend a marriage function. The driver of the mini bus drove away and fled the scene soon after the accident; abandoning the vehicle later at Bhoipali railway gate.
In this connection, the Attabira police station inspector in-charge, Purusottam Bhoi, along with other staff reached near Bhoipali railway gate and seized the vehicle. They filed a case (72/2019) and started further investigations.
