One killed, 5 injured in shooting near White House in Washington  

Washington: At least one person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting on streets close to the White House, police said here Thursday.

The shooting took place at Columbia Heights, about three km from the White House, in Northwest Washington at around 10.06pm Thursday police were quoted as saying by the ‘NBC Washington’. Police received a report of shots fired and found six victims who had been shot, it said.

The five injured were taken to hospitals, including at least one in critical condition, police said, adding that they are interviewing people in the neighbourhood and looking for surveillance video, the report said.

Earlier local TV station ‘FOX-5’ reported that six people were shot in the incident, but they did not report on any death. Also no one was ready to talk about the victims. The administrative officials could not say whether it was a single shooter or multiple people were involved. ,

ABC affiliate WJLA-TV posted images on Twitter of ambulances carrying victims from the scene and said that there had been a ‘massive’ police response at the intersection of 14th Street and Columbia road.

Security has been beefed up after the shooting. There was also no confirmation as to whether any arrests have been made. However, people could be seen running for cover as the shooting continued for more than 15 minutes.
