Jajpur/ Kalinganagar: In a tragic incident, a man died and seven others sustained injuries as molten iron reportedly fell on workers at Maithan Steel Plant’s Steel Melting Shop (SMS) located at Kalinganagar area in Jajpur district, late Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Nitin Yadav, 27, of Uttar Pradesh. Out of the seven injured four are stated to be critically injured with 40 per cent burns. The injured persons were identified as Dhaneswar Naik, 24, of Bhadrak, Shyam Sundar Naik, 33, Amulya Chatamba, 25, and Pabitra Sahu, 25, of Dhenkanal. The identity of the remaining three is not available. The injured were undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack when the last report came in.
According to the reports, the molten metal which was being shifted with the help of a crane fell on the workers. While one of the workers succumbed to severe burn injuries on the spot, seven others were grievously injured in the incident. Tension ran high on the factory premises after the mishap. The company authorities allegedly tried to hide the incident. No FIR was registered with the police till the last report arrived. One platoon of police force was deployed in front of the factory and the police station to avoid any untoward incident.
