Cuttack Sadar: One person died and eight people sustained severe injuries after a van carrying eight passengers collided with a motorcycle near Nahabhanga petrol pump here Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Ranjan Sahu, 50, a resident of Krishnanandapur under Tirtol police limits.
Sources said the mishap took place when both the vehicles were trying to overtake each other. The motorcycle (OD 21 C 6061) rider fell in front of the van (OD 02 C 9354) and was ran over by the latter following which it (the van) lost control and turned turtle. The motorcycle rider died on the spot.
Informed, Kandarpur police reached the spot and sent the injured and the body to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
