One killed as speeding vehicle rams into bicycle in Balasore district

Balasore: A man was killed and his cousin sustained injuries after a speeding vehicle rammed into a bicycle near Jamsuli square under Singla police limits in Balasore district, a source said Thursday.

The deceased person was identified as Saru Hansda who was a resident of Parulia village under Rasgobindapur police limits in Mayurbhanj district.

According to the source, the mishap took place Wednesday night while Saru Hansda and his cousin Nalu Murmu were returning from their friend’s house in Singla village on a bicycle. The speeding vehicle fled the scene after hitting the bicycle near Jamsuli square on the main road between Basta and Baliapala.

Following the hit and run, Saru died on the spot and Nalu sustained critical injuries. Subsequently, locals admitted Nalu to a hospital in Basta, the source informed.

Police have sent Saru’s body for post-mortem. A probe has been launched in this regard.
